This jammed buckle is a major design flaw with Giro mountain bike shoes, as my previous pair of Privateers experienced this same thing, albeit due to my own error of overtightening of the shoes, causing the buckle to jam up against the rubber tab atop the strap. Bottom line is Giro needs to shave down the width of the rubber atop the strap, so the buckle doesn't jam up against it, thereby preventing it from releasing properly.
